These rules are designed to supplement the standard Rules of Golf and address specific situations that may arise on our course. We kindly request that all golfers familiarize themselves with these local rules:

1. Out of Bounds (Rule 18.2): The areas marked by white stakes or defined by boundary fences indicate out of bounds. If your ball is determined to be out of bounds, you must take a stroke-and-distance penalty by playing from the original spot or proceed under the applicable rule.

2. Water Hazards (Rule 17.1): Yellow stakes or lines indicate water hazards. If your ball comes to rest in a water hazard, you have the option to play the ball as it lies or proceed under the appropriate rule. Red stakes or lines indicate lateral water hazards, where the same options apply.

3. Ground Under Repair (Rule 16.1): Areas marked as ground under repair (GUR) are deemed abnormal course conditions. Relief must be taken in accordance with the rules governing such situations. Please observe any signage or markings indicating areas of GUR.

4. Embedded Ball (Rule 16.3): A ball embedded in its own pitch mark through the green may be lifted, cleaned, and dropped without penalty, as near as possible to where it lay but not nearer the hole.

5. Distance-Measuring Devices: The use of distance-measuring devices is allowed unless otherwise specified in competition guidelines. However, devices that measure other conditions, such as wind or slope, are not permitted.

6. Preferred Lies: During certain weather or course conditions, preferred lies (commonly known as “winter rules”) may be in effect. This means that golfers are allowed to lift, clean, and place their ball within a specified area. Please check with the Pro Shop or course signage for any specific instructions regarding preferred lies.

It’s important to note that local rules may be subject to change based on specific circumstances or tournament play. We recommend checking with our staff or reviewing the local rules posted at the course prior to your round.

Course Management

Effective course management is key to optimizing your performance and enjoyment on the challenging layout of StoneRidge Golf Course. By employing strategic decision-making and implementing sound course management principles, you can navigate the course with confidence and maximize your scoring potential. Here are some course management tips to consider:

1. Plan Your Shots: Take the time to evaluate each hole and plan your shots accordingly. Consider the layout, hazards, and your own strengths and weaknesses. Assess the risk-reward opportunities and make informed decisions based on your skill level and the situation at hand.

2. Play Within Your Abilities: It’s essential to be realistic about your skill level and capabilities. Avoid attempting high-risk shots or trying to overpower the course if it doesn’t align with your abilities. Instead, focus on playing smart, accurate shots that allow you to position yourself for success.

3. Manage Your Tee Shots: Off the tee, prioritize accuracy and positioning. Identify the optimal target areas and aim to land your tee shots in favorable positions that set up your approach shots. Taking a more conservative line can often lead to better results than trying to reach the maximum distance.

4. Course Knowledge: Familiarize yourself with the nuances of StoneRidge Golf Course. Understand the slopes, undulations, and breaks on the greens. Take note of the best angles of approach to each green and any prevailing winds that may affect your shots. This knowledge will help you make more informed decisions during your round.

5. Shot Selection: Choose the most appropriate club for each shot. Consider the distance, elevation changes, and any hazards you need to navigate. Opt for shots that give you the best chance of hitting the green or positioning yourself for the next shot. Sometimes a well-placed layup can set you up for a more manageable approach.

6. Manage Your Emotions: Golf can be a mentally challenging game. Stay focused and maintain a positive mindset, even when facing difficulties. Avoid letting frustration or impatience affect your decision-making and execution. Stay present, concentrate on one shot at a time, and embrace the challenges of the course.

Identification: Bunkers at StoneRidge Golf Course are easily identifiable with their sandy surfaces and surrounding edges. They are strategically placed throughout the course to add challenge and variety to your round.

Shot Difficulty: Bunkers at StoneRidge require skill and precision to navigate successfully. Shots from the sand can be challenging due to the soft texture and the potential for the ball to embed or sit atop the sand. The depth and contours of the bunkers further enhance the difficulty level.

Shot Selection: When faced with a shot from a bunker, it’s important to consider your options. Assess the distance, lip height, and green conditions to determine the best approach. Depending on the lie and your skill level, you may opt for a standard sand shot, a splash shot, or even choose to play out sideways to avoid further hazards.

Proper Technique: Executing proper bunker shots requires mastering the correct technique. This allows the sand to lift the ball out smoothly and helps avoid excessive backspin.

The thickness and height of the rough can impede clubhead speed, making it more difficult to achieve distance and control. Golfers need to adapt their shot selection and consider the impact the rough will have on their ball flight.

Shot Selection: When your ball finds its way into the rough, it’s important to assess the lie and surrounding conditions. The rough can affect the flight and behavior of your shots. Depending on the lie, you may need to adjust your club selection, aim for a more conservative target, and prioritize accuracy over distance.

Recovery Strategies: Recovery from the rough requires proper technique and shot execution. Focus on making solid contact with the ball and minimizing contact with the thicker grass. Strive for a clean strike that promotes a controlled ball flight and helps you advance the ball toward your target.

Course Strategy: The rough at StoneRidge Golf Course is intentionally designed to provide a challenge for golfers. It penalizes errant shots, requiring players to prioritize accuracy and shot placement. Course management and strategic shot selection are crucial in navigating the rough successfully and maximizing your scoring opportunities.

However, due to the natural growth patterns, the rough may vary in thickness and density across the course. Care for the Greens: When using putting lines, be mindful of the potential impact on the greens. Avoid excessively scraping or digging into the putting surface with alignment tools. Gentle placement and removal of the ball are recommended to prevent any unintentional damage to the greens.

Consideration for Others: While using putting lines, be considerate of other golfers and their putting lines. Avoid stepping on or crossing another player’s line, as this can disrupt their intended aim. Displaying respect and sportsmanship ensures a positive atmosphere for all golfers.

Proper Technique: Utilize putting lines as a visual guide for alignment, but remember that it’s the golfer’s responsibility to execute the stroke effectively. Focus on proper stroke mechanics, weight distribution, and reading the green to ensure a successful putt. Putting lines should complement your overall technique rather than replace it.

Personal Preference: The use of putting lines is a matter of personal preference and individual playing style. Experiment with different techniques and alignment methods to find what works best for you. It’s important to develop a routine that enhances your confidence and consistency on the greens.

Keep phone conversations brief and move to designated areas, such as designated phone zones or outdoor spaces, to minimize disruption to fellow golfers. Silence or set phones to vibrate to avoid unnecessary distractions.

By doing so, you contribute to a pleasant atmosphere for everyone.

Golfer’s Elbow

Golfer’s elbow, also known as medial epicondylitis, is a common condition that can affect golfers due to the repetitive motions involved in the swing. Understanding golfer’s elbow and taking appropriate measures can help prevent and manage this condition. Here’s what you need to know about golfer’s elbow:

Causes: Golfer’s elbow occurs when the tendons in the forearm that attach to the inside of the elbow become inflamed or damaged. The repetitive motion of the golf swing, particularly if executed with poor technique or excessive force, can contribute to this condition.

Symptoms: Common symptoms of golfer’s elbow include pain and tenderness on the inside of the elbow, forearm weakness, stiffness, and difficulty in gripping objects. The pain may worsen during the golf swing or with certain activities involving wrist or forearm movement.

Prevention: To reduce the risk of golfer’s elbow, it is important to maintain proper swing mechanics and technique. This includes using a relaxed grip, avoiding excessive tension in the arms and wrists, and seeking professional instruction to develop a balanced and efficient swing. Additionally, incorporating forearm strengthening exercises and stretching into your fitness routine can help improve flexibility and reduce the strain on the tendons.

Treatment: If you experience symptoms of golfer’s elbow, it is important to seek appropriate treatment. Resting the affected arm, applying ice or cold packs to reduce inflammation, and taking over-the-counter pain medications may provide temporary relief. Physical therapy, including specific exercises and stretches, can help strengthen the forearm muscles and promote healing. In more severe cases, a healthcare professional may recommend other interventions, such as bracing, corticosteroid injections, or in rare cases, surgery.

Rehabilitation and Recovery: Returning to golf after experiencing golfer’s elbow requires a gradual approach. It is important to follow the guidance of healthcare professionals and physical therapists, who can provide a structured rehabilitation program to rebuild strength, improve flexibility, and gradually reintroduce golf-related activities. Engaging in a proper warm-up routine, using supportive equipment, and listening to your body’s signals during play can help prevent a recurrence of golfer’s elbow.

Consultation with Healthcare Professionals: If you suspect you have golfer’s elbow or are experiencing persistent pain or discomfort, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional, such as a sports medicine physician or orthopedic specialist. They can provide a diagnosis, recommend appropriate treatment options, and offer guidance on preventive measures and safe return-to-play protocols.

Adhere to these restrictions to minimize damage to the turf and ensure fair playing conditions.

These areas may include wetlands, protected wildlife habitats, or designated no-cart zones. Respect the course signage and markings to preserve the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Inclement Weather: In the event of inclement weather, follow the instructions provided by StoneRidge Golf Course regarding golf cart usage. In some cases, cart restrictions may be implemented to preserve course conditions or ensure the safety of golfers. Cooperate with the course management’s decisions to maintain a secure playing environment.

Club Selection: Elevation changes can significantly affect the distance and trajectory of your shots. When playing at StoneRidge, consider the uphill or downhill nature of the hole and select your clubs accordingly. Uphill shots may require more club to reach the desired distance, while downhill shots may require less club to prevent overshooting the target.

Shot Strategy: Elevation changes can influence shot strategy and shot selection. Uphill shots may require a more aggressive approach to carry obstacles or reach the green, while downhill shots may call for a more conservative approach to ensure control and accuracy. Take the time to assess the elevation changes and plan your shots accordingly.

Reading the Greens: Elevation changes also affect the break and speed of putts. Pay attention to the slope of the greens, as uphill putts tend to be slower, while downhill putts may require extra care to avoid racing past the hole. Practice reading the greens and adjusting your putting technique to accommodate the elevation changes.

Scenic Views: The elevation changes at StoneRidge Golf Course provide stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the course and the natural surroundings as you navigate through the various holes. These scenic vistas enhance the overall golfing experience.

Understanding the course’s topography allows you to make informed decisions and optimize your performance.

Adapting to Challenges: Embrace the challenges presented by elevation changes. They add excitement and variety to your round, testing your skills and adaptability as a golfer. Approach each shot with confidence, taking advantage of the opportunities that elevation changes provide.

Practice Swings

Practice swings are an integral part of the pre-shot routine for many golfers at StoneRidge Golf Course. They allow players to warm up, get a feel for their swing, and mentally prepare for the upcoming shot. Understanding the role and etiquette of practice swings can enhance your overall golfing experience. Here’s what you need to know about practice swings at StoneRidge:

Function and Benefits: Practice swings serve several purposes. They help golfers loosen up their muscles, establish a rhythm, and build confidence before executing the actual shot. Practice swings allow you to simulate the motion and get a sense of how the club interacts with the turf, helping you make any necessary adjustments before addressing the ball.

Efficient Use of Time: While practice swings are beneficial, it’s important to be mindful of the pace of play. Keep your practice swings concise and purposeful to avoid unnecessary delays. Aim to strike a balance between preparing yourself adequately and maintaining an efficient pace on the course.

Mindful Course Awareness: When taking practice swings, be aware of your surroundings and fellow golfers. Ensure that you have sufficient space and maintain a safe distance from others. Be mindful of golfers in neighboring teeing areas, fairways, or greens to avoid any potential interference or distractions.

Practice Swing Routine: Develop a consistent practice swing routine that works for you. This may involve visualizing the intended shot, taking a few rehearsal swings, or focusing on specific swing mechanics. Find a routine that helps you feel confident and ready to execute your shot effectively.

Consideration for Others: Show consideration for your playing partners and fellow golfers by minimizing any potential disruptions caused by practice swings. Be aware of your positioning and avoid standing too close to others or obstructing their view. Stay attentive and be prepared to address the ball promptly when it is your turn.

Adapting to Course Conditions: Adjust your practice swings based on the course conditions. Consider the type of turf, slope, or any potential hazards in your vicinity. This adaptation allows you to better simulate the actual shot and make any necessary adjustments to your swing or club selection.

Preventing Divots: When taking practice swings on the turf, be mindful of divots and take care to avoid causing unnecessary damage. Use a lighter touch or make practice swings in areas designated for this purpose, such as practice areas or designated tee box mats.

Effective Visualization: Use practice swings as an opportunity to visualize the desired shot trajectory, target line, and intended outcome. Incorporate mental imagery and positive visualization techniques to enhance focus and improve shot execution when it’s time to address the ball.

Club Selection

Club selection is a critical aspect of successful golfing at StoneRidge Golf Course. Choosing the right club for each shot can significantly impact your performance and help you navigate the course effectively. Here’s what you need to know about club selection at StoneRidge:

Know Your Distances: Understanding your personal yardages with each club is key to making informed club selections. Spend time on the driving range or during practice rounds to determine the average distance you achieve with each club in your bag. This knowledge will guide your decision-making process on the course.

Consider the Shot Requirements: Take into account the specific shot requirements for each hole at StoneRidge. Consider the length of the hole, the presence of hazards or obstacles, and the location of the pin on the green. Analyze the hole layout and choose a club that will allow you to execute the desired shot successfully.

Factor in Elevation Changes: StoneRidge Golf Course features elevation changes that can affect the distance and trajectory of your shots. When encountering uphill or downhill shots, adjust your club selection accordingly. Uphill shots typically require more club, while downhill shots may call for less club to prevent overshooting the target.

Consider Wind Conditions: Be mindful of the prevailing wind conditions during your round. Tailwinds can add distance to your shots, while headwinds can reduce distance. Crosswinds can affect the accuracy of your shots. Take these factors into account when selecting clubs to ensure optimal results.

Use Course Markers: Utilize the yardage markers provided by StoneRidge Golf Course. Look for fairway markers, yardage plates, and distance posts to gauge the remaining distance to the target. These markers assist in making more informed club selections and help you navigate the course strategically.

Adapt to Course Conditions: Adjust your club selection based on the course conditions, such as the firmness of the fairways or the speed of the greens. Softer fairways may result in less roll, requiring more club to reach the target. Faster greens may necessitate a club selection that allows for additional roll-out.

Factor in Shot Difficulty: Consider the difficulty of the shot you’re facing, such as a long carry over water or a tight fairway. Opt for a club that gives you the best chance of executing a successful shot while minimizing the risk. Sometimes a more conservative club selection may be the wiser choice.

Trust Your Instincts: Ultimately, trust your instincts and the feel of each shot. You know your game better than anyone else. If you have a favorite club or a club that you feel particularly confident with, consider using it in situations where it aligns with the shot requirements.

Pin Placement

Pin placement plays a crucial role in the challenge and strategy of each hole at StoneRidge Golf Course. The position of the pin on the green can greatly affect your approach shots, putting, and overall scoring. Understanding how pin placement impacts your game can help you plan your shots effectively. Here’s what you need to know about pin placement at StoneRidge:

Varied Positions: StoneRidge Golf Course features a variety of pin placements on the greens. The pin can be positioned in different areas, such as the front, middle, or back of the green, as well as near slopes or undulations. These varied positions offer different challenges and opportunities for golfers.

Shot Strategy: Pin placement influences your shot strategy and shot selection. When the pin is located closer to the front of the green, you may need to take a more aggressive approach to carry hazards or land the ball close to the pin. Conversely, a pin placement near the back of the green may call for a more conservative approach to avoid overshooting.

Green Reading: Assessing the pin placement helps you read the greens effectively. The position of the pin affects the slope and break of the green. Take time to analyze the contours and study how the ball will react when approaching the hole from different angles. This knowledge will guide your putting line and speed.

Course Management: Consider pin placement as part of your overall course management strategy. Evaluate the hole layout, hazards, and potential risks involved in attacking a pin in a certain position. Sometimes, playing to the center of the green or aiming for the safer side can be a wise decision to avoid unnecessary trouble and maximize your scoring opportunities.

Adjusting Club Selection: Pin placement can impact the club selection for your approach shots. When the pin is located towards the front, you may need to choose a club that allows for a higher trajectory and more carry. For a pin placement at the back of the green, selecting a club that provides more distance and control may be necessary.

Observing Others: Pay attention to the shots of fellow golfers and their approaches to the pin. Observe their successes or challenges to gain insights into the pin placement and how it may affect your own shots. Adapt your strategy based on their experiences and your own assessment.

Adapting to Changing Pin Positions: Keep in mind that pin placements can change from day to day or even within a single round. StoneRidge Golf Course may rotate pin positions regularly to ensure fairness and variety. Stay attentive to course markers or consult with the pro shop to determine the current pin placement on each hole.

Practice and Experience: Developing a good sense of distance control and accuracy in your approach shots comes with practice and experience. StoneRidge Golf Course utilizes the handicap system to level the playing field and provide fair competition for golfers of different skill levels. A handicap allows golfers to measure and compare their abilities, enabling them to compete on an equal footing and enjoy competitive matches with friends, colleagues, or in organized tournaments. Here’s what you need to know about the handicap system at StoneRidge:

Definition of Handicap: A handicap is a numerical measure of a golfer’s playing ability. It represents the number of strokes a player is expected to take above or below par on a given course. The handicap system helps create equitable matchups by allowing players to compete based on their relative skill levels.

Calculation Method: The handicap index is determined based on a golfer’s scores from previous rounds. StoneRidge Golf Course uses an authorized system, such as the USGA Handicap System, to calculate and maintain handicaps. The formula takes into account a player’s scores, course rating, slope rating, and other factors to establish a fair handicap index.

Course Handicap: The handicap index is used to determine a golfer’s course handicap for the specific course being played. The course handicap accounts for the difficulty of the course and allows players to adjust their scores accordingly when competing in different competitions or playing on different courses.

Benefits of a Handicap: Having a handicap provides numerous benefits for golfers. It enables fair and competitive play among golfers of different skill levels. Handicaps also allow players to track their progress and improvement over time, serving as a measure of their performance and helping them set realistic goals.

Posting Scores: It is important for golfers to post their scores accurately and promptly after each round. This ensures the integrity of the handicap system and allows for accurate calculations of handicap indexes. StoneRidge Golf Course provides facilities or online platforms where golfers can post their scores.

Playing with a Handicap: When playing with a handicap, golfers adjust their scores on each hole based on their course handicap. This allows players to determine their net score, which is calculated by subtracting their course handicap from their gross score. Net scores provide a fair basis for competition and determine the winners of matches or tournaments.

Handicap Verification: Handicaps at StoneRidge may require verification to ensure the accuracy and fairness of competition. This may involve submitting scorecards or providing proof of a valid handicap index obtained from an authorized golf association or club.

Handicap Committees: StoneRidge Golf Course may have a handicap committee responsible for overseeing the handicap system and ensuring its proper administration. The committee can provide guidance, answer questions, and address any concerns related to handicaps.

Improving Your Handicap: As you continue to play and improve your game, your handicap may change. Regularly posting scores and striving for better performance can lead to a lower handicap index. This process reflects the progress you make and motivates further improvement in your golfing abilities.

Understanding and utilizing the handicap system at StoneRidge Golf Course allows golfers to compete fairly and enjoy the game regardless of their skill levels. Embrace the opportunity to establish and improve your handicap, and let it enhance your golfing experience by creating equitable competition and measuring your progress as a golfer.

Rating System

The rating system at StoneRidge Golf Course provides golfers with valuable information about the difficulty and challenge of each hole and the overall course. These ratings help golfers assess the level of play and make informed decisions about strategy and club selection. Here’s what you need to know about the rating system at StoneRidge:

Course Rating: The course rating is a numerical value that represents the difficulty of a golf course for scratch golfers. It is typically expressed as a whole number, such as 72 or 73, and indicates the score a scratch golfer is expected to shoot on the course. The course rating takes into account factors such as hole length, obstacles, hazards, green complexes, and overall design.

Slope Rating: The slope rating is a measure of the relative difficulty of a golf course for bogey golfers compared to scratch golfers. It is expressed as a two- or three-digit number, such as 125 or 140. The slope rating accounts for the course’s length, the presence of hazards, and the overall challenge it presents to average golfers. Higher slope ratings indicate a more challenging course.

Course and Slope Rating Adjustment: The course and slope ratings are adjusted based on the tees played by golfers. StoneRidge Golf Course offers multiple sets of tees, each with its own rating. By selecting the appropriate tee box for their skill level, golfers can ensure a fair assessment of the course difficulty based on their abilities.

Rating Accuracy: The course and slope ratings at StoneRidge are determined by a team of experts following established rating guidelines. These ratings are regularly reviewed and updated to maintain accuracy and reflect any changes in the course conditions or layout. The goal is to provide golfers with reliable and up-to-date information to enhance their course management and decision-making.

Understanding Course Rating: The course rating provides a baseline measure of difficulty, helping golfers gauge the challenge of the course as a whole. A lower course rating indicates an easier course for scratch golfers, while a higher rating suggests a more demanding layout. It’s important to consider the course rating when planning your strategy and setting expectations for your performance on the course.

Considering Slope Rating: The slope rating is particularly useful for determining the relative difficulty of the course for average golfers. Higher slope ratings imply that the course presents more challenges and potential scoring discrepancies for golfers with higher handicaps. By factoring in the slope rating, golfers can make adjustments to their playing strategies and set realistic goals for their rounds.

Club Selection and Strategy: Understanding the course and slope ratings at StoneRidge Golf Course assists golfers in making appropriate club selections and strategic decisions. A higher course and slope rating may require more conservative play and careful shot selection, while a lower rating may offer opportunities for more aggressive play. Utilize these ratings to adapt your approach and optimize your performance on the course.

Course Rating Resources: StoneRidge Golf Course provides resources such as scorecards, course guides, or digital platforms where golfers can find the course and slope ratings for each set of tees. Familiarize yourself with these resources to gain valuable insights into the course’s difficulty and plan your game accordingly.

The rating system at StoneRidge Golf Course offers valuable information about the course’s difficulty and challenges. By understanding and utilizing these ratings, golfers can make informed decisions, adjust their strategies, and approach each round with confidence. Use the course and slope ratings as tools to enhance your golfing experience and optimize your performance on the course.
